The History of Lambda Phi Theta

Three Dynamic, Invigorating, Illustrious, and Phenomenal Strong Black Men founded Lambda Phi Theta, Fraternity Inc. on January 13, 2005, in the founding states of New York, Florida, and Texas. These young men wanted to use their collective strength to promote academic excellence and to provide assistance to persons in need. The founders of Lambda Phi Theta are Eminence D. Sean Benjamin, Eminence M. Antonio King, and Eminence Adrain Padmore.

Lambda Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. is a private, non-profit, non-collegiate organization whose purpose is to provide services and programs to promote human welfare in the LGBT Community and Community at Large.

Lambda Phi Theta Fraternity was originally known as Lambda Phi Omicron. This name was changed by the founders of the organization on December 18, 2004.

By the end of the year 2004, the motto of Lambda Phi Theta was kept the same from when it first conceived in Lambda Phi Omicron. The motto, seal, and shield were approved by the Eminence Cabinet and is currently in use. An Eminence typed the first constitution, it remained in use until the winter of 2004 when it was reviewed and rewritten by Eminence King. Working together, Eminences and Benjamin finished the work on the seal and Eminence Benjamin and King finished the Coat of Arms. In the beginning of 2005 Eminence Benjamin wrote the rituals and made sure that they were kept in good care.

On February 2, 2005 under the Florida Articles of Incorporation Lambda Phi Theta, was Incorporated making this organization a legal operational entity.

The fraternity will serve as an important source of leadership training for Gay Men and Men as a whole, whose opportunities to exercise such skills in formal organizations are few.

On May 21, 2005 the Alpha Chapter of Lambda Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. was founded in the River City of Jacksonville Florida. With the crossing of brothers Gerard Neymour (Nassau, Bahamas), DeCarlos McKee (New Orleans, LA), and Frank Watson III (Buffalo, New York), the Alpha Chapter became in existence, with these brothers (Neymour, McKee) under the direction of Eminence M. Antonio King and (Watson) under the direction of Eminence D. Sean Benjamin.
